ABOUT RHINOS
At the turn of the 20th century, 500,000 rhinos roamed the wild. Today, IUCN estimates fewer than 27,000 remain across the five global species. Africa is home to two: the white rhino and the critically endangered black rhino. While poaching once drove Kenya’s black rhino population to a historic low of 400 in the 1980s, the northern white rhino (native to Central Africa) suffered a total collapse. Following the loss of Sudan, the world’s last male, only two females remain: Najin and Fatu.
Today, Ol Pejeta is a global stronghold for recovery, protecting over 180 Eastern black rhinos. Your symbolic adoption provides the security, veterinary care, and pioneering science—including the mission to save the northern white rhino—required to ensure no more species are lost to history.
