Goal
We’re delighted to announce that Juliette is running the 2026 London Marathon in support of Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Taking place on April 26th 2026, the London Marathon provides an incredible opportunity to raise vital funds for Ol Pejeta and we’re so proud of Juliette and her dedication and commitment to run the marathon on our behalf.
We asked Juliette for what makes her want to run the marathon for Ol Pejeta and this is what she had to say…
Running for the Guardians: Why I’m Taking on the London Marathon for Ol Pejeta
“There are two instances when I feel most myself: while I’m running, and while I’m working for a cause that is positively impacting the communities I am a part of. To be running the London Marathon on behalf of Ol Pejeta Conservancy, an organization that I feel so closely tied to, is truly beyond my wildest dreams.
When I arrived at Ol Pejeta in August 2024, I had no idea what to expect, as it was my first time in East Africa and my first time in a conservancy. What I came away with is a renewed sense of empowerment, an understanding of the challenges faced by those living in developing nations, and an intense love for the Kenyans that welcomed me with open arms.
While living and working on the conservancy, I learned of an opportunity to ‘run with the rangers’. As a long-distance marathon runner who had followed many Kenyan athletes, nothing could sound more exciting. On multiple occasions, a group of armed rangers picked me up at first light, and we’d run 10-15k through the bush, dodging rhinos and elephants along the way (there were quite a few close calls!). The rangers I ran alongside were kind, protective, and showed admiration for my ability to (almost) keep up with them. While I ran in my new sneakers, many of them were easily outrunning me wearing only slides. We exchanged phrases in English and Swahili, and I followed along on the 2024 Wildlife Ranger Challenge, where these very same rangers would run 21+ kilometers while carrying 20kgs of weight, an intimidating feat. Running with these rangers gave me a sense of home away from home.
I would often have conversations about the places that my Kenyan team members wanted to visit. Unfortunately, given the cost of visa applications and the low availability of visas, many Kenyans will never fulfill their dream of visiting the US or the UK – two places where I can move through freely given my dual citizenship. The immense privilege of my citizenship has provided me with opportunities that are highlighted in our globalized world. I hope to run this marathon on behalf of the rangers that are not able to do so, and to provide a spotlight on the rangers life-long dedication to protecting the awe-inspiring wildlife at Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
I am overjoyed to be running the 2026 London Marathon for these very same men and women, as well as for a cause that is making a tangible difference in land and animal conservation. I hope that together, we can work to further conservation efforts by supporting the Ol Pejeta rangers safeguarding wildlife.
