VIRTUAL ULTRA MARATHON

The ForRangers Ol Pejeta Virtual Ultra Marathon 2020 - helping rangers from home. #VirtualUltraKenya

Play a part in wildlife conservation while getting fit in 2020 by signing up to our innovative virtual ultra marathon! No matter where you are in the world, make your commitment to conservation a part of your lifestyle as you cover 1,200 kms in 365 days. Whether you run, walk, cycle, row, ride, hop, skip or jump the distance (in any combination you please), all that matters is that you do your best to finish the entire route.

You will also spend the year trying to raise $1,000 for wildlife conservation in Kenya - every step along your year-long marathon will then make an actual difference to keeping wild animals safe. By December 31st 2020, you will not only have made a significant contribution, but you will have covered an average of 3kms a day for a year, and can celebrate all the benefits that come with an active lifestyle and doing good.

The route will take you around various different conservancies in Kenya, giving you a chance to learn more about the country and the efforts being made to protect wild spaces and creatures.

HOW IT WORKS:

The event was created for people who want to take part in a significant physical challenge for conservation, but don’t have the time, funds, health or even fitness to travel to a far-flung corner of the world and participate in an actual ultra marathon. This is much more of a slow-burner, a daily commitment that you can take privately, at your own pace and in your own style. All you need to do is cover a certain distance within a certain number of days - 365, to be precise. Using a fitness app (e.g. KeepFit or RunKeeper), you log distances covered in each session - and this can be running, walking, swimming, rowing, playing tennis, riding horses - anything you please! - and enter them into our customised web-app.

The app will reflect your achievements on the leader board, showing you how far you’ve made it along the ‘virtual route’ - which we mapped out on Google maps, as well as where you’ve got to compared to everybody else. It’s a long distance but a fantastic cause, and we’ll send you lots of tips and ideas to help you get there. Once you sign up, just follow the email prompts to complete the process and begin your journey!
