Last year we witnessed the tail end of the extinction of a species that has been around since the dinosaurs! Sudan, was the last male northern white rhino on the planet. We’ve since learned that the black rhino is critically endangered, which means that without any intervention this species may disappear on our watch. The poaching crisis of the 1970s and 80s, fueled by demand for rhino horn in traditional Chinese medicine in Asia and dagger handles in Yemen, wiped out a staggering 97.6% of the black rhino populations. For this reason my company teamed up with Ol Pejeta Conservancy to raise funds to help with conservation efforts of the black rhino. Through our Feel The Charge campaign I hope to raise $2,500 which will go towards securing the conservancy which is always under threat in order to maintain a safe haven for the black rhinos. These funds also go towards Baraka, our adopted blind black rhino. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Why the Black Rhino?

The black rhino is a critically endangered species. Across Africa, rhinos have suffered a catastrophic decline due to poaching for their horns and loss of their natural habitats. Poaching of the black rhino led to a devastating 98% population decline between 1960 and 1990. In 1993, there were estimated to be just 2,300 black rhinos living in the wild. There is some good news however – because of organizations such as Ol Pejeta, black rhino populations have risen to over 5,000 today. We believe that the black rhino has a fighting chance to see these numbers even triple over the next decade; however it will take some work and commitment from all of us.

In 2019, David Rio, in partnership with Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, introduced the “Feel the Charge” Campaign. The campaign will be executed on social media and at all David Rio events to build awareness and request donations. David Rio also named its 2019 chai product in the endangered species chai line - Black Rhino Cocoa Chai. This is available for sale in North America and Europe.

We greatly appreciate and thank you for donating to Ol Pejeta Conservancy. David Rio is passionate about animal welfare and awareness to endangered species. Ol Pejeta gives us the opportunity to work closely together to increase the black rhino population for years to come. Our goal is $10,000, which goes to the efforts of the conservancy. Your support of Ol Pejeta Conservancy will make a world of difference.

Thank you!
